Simplest Solution Ideas:
I often get asked to help with advice or solutions for charities, clubs like the scouts and other people venturing out on their own for the first time. A well known youth organisation asked for some help with a basics pack to solve the essentials for life if the youngsters get stuck or stranded while on a hill walking event.
I asked a stack of questions regarding shelter, the likelihood of stranding and got a pretty good overview of what they were doing and what they may need if things didn’t go according to plan. In reality, their shelter needs were covered, most probably their food also but they didn’t have a means of fire or longer term water. I explained that what I would need most in that situation was a longer term water source and a method of lighting a fire for warmth/signalling.
I merely took one of the larger 1.75 litre water bags and packed it down into a pocket sized bag, added another ultra compact 1 litre water bag as you can carry it in a pocket and simply fill from the larger bag when required or after its been solar sterilised. The addition of ten sterilising tablets, five tindertabs with a firesteel and not forgetting a scalpel blade for a striker takes care of the warmth. Its enough to give them a couple of days. Its not complicated, its not a massive addition to the pocket in case their packs get lost on river crossings either. Its enough to buy time and keep a small group hydrated and warm or start a signal fire. This is just the rock bottom basics to keep people alive.
The more I thought about it afterwards, the more I realised its just a good simple pocket addition for anyone. So much so I decided to get it added to the store as a basic pack for anyone who is out in the wilds even if its just walking the dog.
Its been kindly added to the store. If you want one of this cheap but essential packs please visit the Law Industries Store for one.
